PUBLIC NOTICE: LIVE FIRE TRAINING BURN SCHEDULED

Firefighters to conduct live fire training on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Camarillo Airport

CAMARILLO, Calif. – The Ventura County Fire Department, in cooperation with Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) and Camarillo Airport is proceeding with a live fire training burn at Camarillo Airport between the main runway 26 and the Taxiway on Monday, August 12, 2019 from 3 p.m. until completed.

Camarillo residents may notice some smoke in the area, local air traffic will be minimally impacted.

The controlled training burn will involve the ignition of grass as firefighters practice wildfire suppression techniques. Control lines will be established with firefighting resources on scene throughout the duration of the burn to provide containment within this area.

The APCD has approved this burn and will be notified when burning begins. The approximate area to be burned is 1000’ X 300’ of grass stubble at 4” high.

This burning is necessary to alleviate spot fires in the grass from the use of pyro-techniques at the upcoming air show and training for our wildland personnel. They also provide essential training for firefighters to work with live fire.
