The Planning Division administers and implements state and local planning and zoning laws, the City's General Plan and Specific Plans, the subdivision and sign ordinances and assists in coordinating economic development activities. The department reviews each site-specific development application, whether commercial, industrial or residential, to ensure that the uses meet the City's architectural, landscaping and development standards. Each project is reviewed to determine its compliance with the City's growth ordinance as well as applicable city, state, and federal environmental guidelines. The division is also involved with special events, regional planning, open space and redevelopment infill projects.
General Plan Document
The City of Camarillo's General Plan is a comprehensive, long-range guide for the development of the community. It consists of nine elements: CURB, Land Use, Circulation, Housing, Recreation, Open Space and Conservation, Community Design, Safety, and Noise. Each element contains specific goals, policies, and programs to be implemented. The General Plan, which is adopted by the City Council, establishes policy for the physical development of the city.
Zoning Ordinance - General Information
The City's Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 19 of the Camarillo Municipal Code), which is administered by the Community Development Department, was adopted by the City Council in 1976 and is updated from time to time. It controls the size of parcels, height of buildings, and landscaping of structures such as fences, buildings, garages, and additions to houses and businesses. The Zoning Ordinance specifies the types of land uses allowed in different parts of the City. The Zoning Ordinance is designed to encourage compatible development and preserve quality of life while allowing a variety of uses to be conducted in the City.
